I thought about that today. A few weeks or months or whatever ago one of my students was freaking out because she needed to quit her job. She had gotten a new and better paying one. She was scheduled that evening at said job yet she had known about the new one for at least a day or maybe two tops. She kept talking about it OVER and OVER..... to the point where I wasn't giving advice anymore but telling her how dumb she was. I can say that as a teacher and person I am pretty darn upfront and honest. She didn't hold it against me but when she finally called it wasn't a big deal, though perhaps it should have been because courtesy would have been to give them as much notice as she could have.
So on one hand I am thinking if the person who is quitting a job, obligation or friendship finds it super easy than their number one problem is that they can't ever commit. Perhaps they need to suck it up and work out their short comings to see if perhaps the problem was them and not said commitment, job or friendship.
And the other hand is the person who sticks around and becomes the beaten dead horse. The person who is on the bottom of the totem pole. Probably the best yet underappretiated employee or friend. The one with the low self esteem who doesn't think they can find or deserve better.... or perhaps is just lacking the self confidence or energy to look for something better.
which is the better person...
sorta chicken and egg really i guess.
